Practical identifiability of electrochemical P2D models for lithium-ion batteries

Abstract Electrochemical models play a significant role in today’s rapid development and enhancement of lithium-ion batteries. For instance, they are applied for design process optimization. More recently, model parameter identifiability gaining interest as thorough parameterization is key to reliable simulation results. Especially electrochemical often prone unidentifiability overfitting due their high number adjustable parameters. In this article, the most common peudo-2D battery parameterized. A three-step procedure which considers quasi-static 3-electrode measurements open-circuit potential, C-rate tests, impedance spectra. Identifiability each step discussed in-depth general guidance future parameterizations derived. The conducted study reveals insufficiency potential tests fully parameterize model. Highly dynamic e.g., spectroscopy, required resolve ambiguity diffusive electric processes under conditions.
